Brock String – 3 m

The Brock String is a training tool for synchronous binocular vision. Five coloured wooden beads on a cotton cord of around three metres serve as visual targets at varying distances. Nothing more is required: a fixed point in the room, the cord at the tip of the nose – and training can begin. It is used in eye training and convergence training; it is named after the Swiss optometrist Frederick W. Brock.

A simple tool, cleanly made: the cord is Oeko-Tex certified cotton with a good grip, and the five beads of FSC-certified beech wood measure 20 mm in diameter each and can be slid to any position with the fingers. The colours – red, yellow, green, blue and natural – are saliva- and sweat-resistant and free of heavy metals, tested to EN 71 and DIN 53160 – which is what makes it suitable for a string that passes through several pairs of hands every day. Rolled up it fits in any sports bag, which makes it the tool you take along when travelling. At the Institut für Myologik the Brock String is part of the material used in the seminars Neuroathletik Mobility and Neuroathletik Kraft and is also included in the neuroathletics set. If you want to work specifically on binocular vision and convergence and prefer to start with one single, robust tool, the Brock String is the right choice.

How it is used

Hold one end of the Brock String to the tip of your nose and attach the other to a fixed point – a door handle, window frame or wall bars will do. Position the coloured wooden beads at different distances along the cord and then fix your gaze on one bead. The varying distances let you build different training scenarios, from a near to a distant visual target. The string suits training at home, in the gym and in practice.
